Compass Project Weeks 18 & 19 - March 2012

It's hard to believe that it is already March and we are closing in on the end of the third quarter at FHS.  These last two weeks have been really exciting.  Lots of progress - and FINALLY - removing the boat from the side molds and seeing what it looks like on the inside.

Still lots to do before it is seaworthy...

Wait a minute....that little guy in the background is my youngest son, Thomas!  Thanks for helping out buddy!

After all these months of hard work...

WE FINALLY FLIP THE BOAT!!!!!

Great job Falmouth Boatbuilders!

We are almost there...

Compass Project Weeks 13-17 - February 2012

February was another busy month at the Compass Project.  The sides strakes were FINALLY put into place, work on the rudder is nearly complete and the keel is starting to take shape.  We even had an extra set of hands helping us out before our week long mid-winter break...
Who is that guy?
It's Mr. Hardy - thanks for lending a hand to get this vessel in the water!

Andy and Greg talk about how to proceed with the rudder...

Andy explains to Mr. Hardy what happens when you don't pull your own weight in the shop...

You get to sweep the shop!

Compass Project Weeks 12 & 13 - January 2012

Lots has been happening at the Compass Project.  Here's a look at weeks 12 & 13...

We have been making a lot of progress on the boat.  It is really starting to take shape - only a few more weeks until it will be ready to flip and begin the fiberglass application!

Hey...that little guy is my oldest son Will! He helps us out in the shop every now and then...

Allen spent some time working with Marissa, Molly and Socheta on experiment which focused on simple machines and how they make work easier.
Marissa and Allen set up an experiment

Socheta and Marissa gather data...

A lever can be a simple machine & it can help Ahmed lift Allen with a single hand!
